Co Star of Diagnosis Murder.

Famously known for his role as Bert the Chimney Sweep in Mary Poppins, in which he gained the honour of performing the worst Cockney accent ever recorded in film. A distinction he attributes to the fact that his voice coach at the time instructed him that he should pronounce every vowel and sylable in every word for an authentic taste of the east london tongue. He is also well known fo his role as Caracticus Potts, the eccentric inventor in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. His more recent work included the 90's who done it, Diagnosis Murder where he appears as the silver haired, trouble magnet, Dr. Mark Sloan along side Son, Detective Steve Sloan, played by his real life son Barry Van Dyke, a show which seems to feature members of his all acting offspring at regular intervals.
