Who & Why?

Rainbow was one of the finest childrens television shows of the late 70s and throughout the 80s into the 90's. Geoffrey, the guardian of the Rainbow house, shared the house and the same bed with a giant bear called Bungle, a one-handed ambiguous-gender hippo called George and a one-handed zip-mouthed 'gimp' called Zippy. They were tortured by their friends Rod, Jane and Freddy coming around to their house and singing. Remarkably this format for the tv series lasted for a staggering 20 years before it was replaced with some inane crud that they spoon-feed the youth of today. Many of us grew up with the Rainbow crew and are no worse off for it (or are we?) and on that note we salute Geoffrey Hayes for his contribution to our childhoods.
