Who & Why?

King of the pun and bad taste in ties, Richard Whiteley was the ultimate quiz show host. Presenting Countdown for over 20 years Richard, alongside Carol Vorderman, has brought us hour after hour of cringe worthy puns and set clashing ties. His chuckle (often at his own jokes while the rest of the studio were silent or groaning) was infectious and his cheeky beaming face lit up an other wise catastrophic design for a set.

Richard had an innocence about him that made him simply lovely, an elderly ladies dream, a childs object of humour and a students cult idol.

Unfortunately we lost Richard in June 2005 when he contracted pnumonia after heart surgery. He will be missed greatly and tragic loss to cult tv. R.I.P. Richard Whiteley.
