Good call on the Godfather films, can't believe I didn't think of them.

Another worthy mention is Goodfellas ah and not forgetting The Italian Job (the original).

I can't help thinking that Goodfellas is all hyped up Hollywood tosh - don't get me wrong it was a fantastic cast but I'd have liked to have seen it a bit rougher and tougher not all hollywoodised.
Does that even make sense?

I actually liked the way all the voilent scenes had happy music playing. It was voilent and lighthearted at the same time. The film didn't need to be overly dark.

I didn't mean dark so much as godfather like - ie realistic not so glittery and spangly, I want to watch a gangsta/mafia movie and feel what it's like to live like that, not feel what it's like to be in a hollywood movie.
